Financial Freedom
Our Bitcoin strategy aligns seamlessly with our mission to dismantle barriers and empower all people on a grassroots level.
At forums like the Oslo Freedom Forum, Groundswell’s founder, Hadiya Masieh, has highlighted how Bitcoin can reclaim agency for individuals and collectives, reinforcing democratic values and community cohesion. In doing so, we are seeking to demonstrate that financial autonomy and social solidarity are deeply interconnected: empowering vulnerable communities economically supports their capacity to resist hate and nurture inclusive networks of kindness.
At Groundswell we see four main use cases for Bitcoin
Remittances: Using Bitcoin’s low-cost, borderless payments to help families keep more of the money they earn, reducing losses to fees and intermediaries.
Direct Giving: By enabling transparent, peer-to-peer transfers, Bitcoin makes charitable giving more accountable and impactful, ensuring support reaches recipients quickly and directly.
Female Empowerment: Access to self-custodied Bitcoin helps women gain financial autonomy, control over their assets, and greater long-term security.
Micro-Finance: Bitcoin expands access to financial tools for underserved communities, making saving, transacting, and accessing capital more universally available and inclusive.
Bitcoin represents financial freedom and autonomy and there are many places in the world where this is much needed. If you would like more information about our Bitcoin work and want training for your organisations please get in touch - [email protected].
